Some nurse-ey advice...

Do not... swerve to miss a kangaroo on the road when driving a car or motorbike.. you may find yourself in hospital..oh and that roo? It just hops off..

Do, try to help yourself a little. I know that being a patient can be difficult, I have been there too, but it all begins with you trying and trusting your nurse.. ok :)

I have enjoyed my three mornings at work. I am very tired right now. I have given my all to every patient I have nursed. Learning mny new things along the way. You know what? I loved being praised by people..is that wrong? I got asked if I ever won a prize for being a nurse "ever" the other day. It made me think. I am quite happy with positive praise once in a while:)

Have a great sleep everyone..wherever you may be :)

I'm always how a simple "Thank you" directed towards me will keep me going for days afterwards.

We all need to be praised! Child or adult, it helps us go on I reckon.

My sister Veronica says stuff like this...she has been a Renal Dialysis nurse at Royal Brissie since 1985..she is older than me (haha) ..its good to trust...someone like you like her...but Don would not have survived 1982 accident if we had put our full trust and not listened to our instincts... that the pain in his shoulder was a clot and not just a pain in the shoulder. then they put Tet stockings on them all after the man in the next bed died, leaving a wife ant two babies and don almost died the same day...maybe in A& E yes... you have to trust...but still have your eyes wide open if you are a rellie...just my experience...and cazzie as with my sister you deserve all the choirs of angels to sing you to sleep because I knwo you care...not all do and thats a fact

Just taking my mother as an example, but I have heard similar from others, I am surprised what people expect from nurses. If they treat you well, what more can you ask for? If they are extra nice and friendly, then that is a bonus. Be nice to your nurse. If she turns out to be be a cow or the male equivalent, then you can be nasty later.

Mal, ur not wrong mate.

Stace, it sure is.

Foxy, "We all need to be praised! Child or adult, it helps us go on I reckon", you need to write a book, and that is so correct!

Galen, I think you would be a very patient-patient :)

Jayne, oh, you ARE talking my talk! Yesterday I got 3 to SOOB and the other one, I had to get the physio in and she coerced the lovely lady into SOOB..we did it :) I made sure she was up with pain relief first of course!

Therese, I cannot agree more, and also, I think it would be wise of me to say, if I worked with bloody idiot nurses like that I would have to put them on notice to the NUM....and if that did not get a result then I would put in an incident report. I could not work in a team of nurses if I could not trust the way they practice..
Huggs Therese, I hope your day has been nice :)

Andrew, I know, some people do expect so much more of you, even if you are doing that much more. I often have to stand back, think of where the person has come from, their past hospital experiences, or lack of, and their level of anxiety. Sometimes it is the fact that the patient has top private cover and they get "stuck" in a public hospital! Not my fault, but I can assure them that had there been a bed available in the Private sector they would have got that bed.
Yes, there are still cows of nurses in some places, but I think they are sorterd out by the good team players in each area. Well, from what I see anyway :)
