Parkville

Last night I worked a night shift out at Parkville. It is part of my hospital's network of places. The building I worked in is not very old, not in comparison to the ones that are still standing and still functional, mostly. When I finished my shift the sun was just rising, it was a cooler than usual morning. Mist was rising from the grass, and as I walked to my car surrounded by massive gum trees, I spied a possum. I thought it was a cat at first. But it was this possum. He/She/It scampered away from me, having previously been just walking along the middle of the path I was on. I was amazed how fast it could run and jump and then climb this massive tree.
Next time I work out there I will take my camera because I want to get pics of the lovely old buildings out there.Part of my familie's history is out there if any of my long time readers recall. I wrote about Camp Pell HERE.

  1. Good post. I can see the mist and feel the joy of seeing that possum after a long night of working.

  3. Mom, it was so nice after having been indoors working for 10hours. I know possums are a pain in the behind to some people, they are house invaders after all :)
But, I thought the actions of the possum were funny. It was so fast..when I was going backwards with tiredness :)

Andrew, I sure will take my camera next time. I ought to go out there on a day off and take the kids come to think of it. Yeah... not this weekend but the next. It is behind the Zoo so I may aswell do that too.

  5. Possums are fun! We've got a small family residing in one of our nearby trees here... apart from the occasional late-night 'hisssss', youo'd never know they were there.

The old Base Hospital here in Bathurst sounds a bit like that place you mentioned... it's a great old building, that has unfortunately been bypassed as they built a brand-new facility behind it. What will happen to it, i don;t know. But i'm sure it'd be Heritage Listed or something, it's that good!

Hey... two of my kids were born there - that's enough of a reason to save the building, surely? heh heh

  6. We have possums everywhere....they eat the tops of our trees and effectively kill them....when we walk the trails there are sweet little morsels stripped of their needles and new growth. They are amazingly fast.
