I have heard about this happening alot. Nice blog by the way. They have new methods of looking for Breast Cancer other than just mamagrams now. The only annoyance is that most insurance companies will not pay for it in the US since they consider a mamagram to be enough to rule it out. Only if you fight them or pay for it yourself, (which isn't cheap) can you get these tests done. But having it in my family, I keep a close eye on my own for that reason, even if the person in my family was a few generations older than my me.

It's a good idea. It seems like a lot of Doctors don't take the time to properly examine anymore. We found a decent one for our son though.

Thanks for the reminder, Cazzie. Years ago, my mother had cancer three different times, and was misdiagnosed each time. She was a nurse and knew something was wrong, and got a second opinion each time.

Good advice...sad to have to be a doubting Thomas where medical professionals are concerned.....and then there is Oliver Martinez who stood by here and then left her.

So true...good post. Working in the hospital teaches me a lot. Doctors make mistakes just like the rest of us. They miss a lot.

Thanks for spreading the word. I read about this yesterday (?). Thanks.
I could tell you some of my own medical stories that needed second opinions, but what the hey... life happens.

My younger sister had a adical masectomy some years back but she had been misdoiagnosed by three different docotrs and onw was a big clinic in Brisband which specifically looks for this... herlife was put indanger by these turkeys who ignored things such as beeding from the nipple etcetc..it spread to her lymph nodes...and she had to have as much Chemotherapy as her body would take. So she sued the bastards and at least got enough to buy herself a small car so she didn't have to use what little energy she had left using a public transport system which meant three buses a day only and hours waiting in town to get home.

Gaahh! makes me bloody angry...they tell us to get checked etcetc then they trivialiose things so you feel maybe you are a hypochondriac and its all in your head...till it spreads so much bling freddy could see it.

I will never have a mamagram by the way. i demand ultrasound as they check under the armpit where the lymph nodes are and mamograms can't do this. Mamograms are also cheaper (which is why they baulk when you ask for the other... also if you have a cancer in the milk ducts, the violent action of the mammogram can cause the cancer to escape into the breast proper...they won't tell you this...google this. Many women have this sort of cancer and never even know they have it and die from old age, because often it did not spread... but slam the breast between two plates and compress and nothing is surer.

I've always been a BIG advocate to tell patients the same thing. It's your body and you know it better than anyone else. If you're not happy with the treatment and/or diagnosis, SEE ANOTHER DR. for a 2nd opinion. Seems that everyone is so rushed in the health care system that now days, it's REALLY easy to fall through the cracks. One can never be too careful. I know from my own personal experience from my old Dr. not telling me something was wrong and I went a whole year! When I wasn't feeling right, saw a new Dr., he told me if I would have waited another 6-12 months, I could have died! That was a REAL eye opener for me.

GREAT post Cazzie ;o)

BTW...I was SOOOOO bummed when Michael Johns was voted off...I think he is very talented and he'll become something. I just know it.
