Eastern Bluetongue Lizard..

A surprising find for our dog Bondi in our yard was this Bluetongue Lizard. A decidedly warm and windy day today has brought it out onto our porch. Most likely looking for some water, maybe some of Bondi's food and to come out into the warmth of the sun.
At first, when I heard this funny barking from Bondi I thought it might be a Tiger Snake. Familiar with such a bark as a kid when growing up out in the country side..we had a few of these Lizards and some snakes in that time. A quick check of the back porch before stepping out the door is always a good idea on a hot night/day. You just never know what you might find!
Today was a real life lesson of The Magic School Bus for the kids... where "Liz", the class lizard, is missing! Even her habitat is gone! Where did she go? To the HERPETARIUM of course!! The class forms a rescue party. But to find Liz, they need to learn what it is like to be a reptile. The person watching the show or reading the book gets to join the Magic School Bus gang.

I love blue tongues. Very cute. And much better than finding a tiger.

We had a sort of a pet blue tongue lizard as kids. It used to live under a tank stand and come out to sun itself. We used to occasionally leave something for it to eat, not sure if it ever did. It was years old. I think they have a long life span.

I would SO freak out if I found a lizard in our back yard. We have alligator lizards that the cat like to bring in. Or use to and it was usually just the tail. EW! That always meant the rest of it was somewhere else!

I would shit myself if I saw that in my backyard.

I always loved lizards. Of course, most US lizards a tiny compared to that guy. He's like a mini dinosaur!

Frickin sweet. I never find cool animals in my yard.

Just rodents that the dog has toyed with to the point of murder, and small birds that eat the grass seed (I wish I could murder them).

We get chipmunks and squirrels sometimes, but that's about it. Pretty wild!

Too cold in Michigan for lizards, and we only have one poisonous snake!
And even then, no one's ever been known to die from it's bite...
You take care Cazzie...

I would have a huge F'n flamethrower on the front porch if I lived there.
The Blue Tongue Lizards wouldn't be so bad but Tiger Snakes?
Come-ON!

OMG! My deck and porch are swarming with little lizards, playful little buggers, but this....that's an alligator! Yikes!
