Whatever happened to TaB?
This was one of my favourtie treats when I was a kid, apart from red licorice that is. A nice cold drink of TaB. I researched what ever happened to it and it's demise rested with the appearance of Diet Coke on the market.
So then, what ever happened to the original taste of Sarsparilla then? Anyone's guess is better than mine.
Mum used to drink Blackberry nip, I wonder if that is still on the market? I think it was termed, "Two buck chuck" LOL. It was a refreshing drink mixed with lemonade though, and was my first sip of alcohol when I was 12 years old.
So, what was your first sip of alcohol? Did you like it? What other drinks can you think of that are no longer on the market?

Oh, wow, as I've chronicled in my blog...alcohol was a very sneaky foe where I was concerned. Once I gave it up for good...in 1989, I never replaced it with the taste for sodas. Good old coffee is my favorite...the stronger the better and either hot or iced...thank goodness that's still on the market.
I've never heard of TAB b4 this post.
Keshi.
I'll have to find you a can or two next time I am at the Importers supermarket. You are bringing back memories for sure here Cazzie.
I lived on the bloody stuff, but be glad its gone sorry - all the diet cokes and (No Suggar added -but sweet ...hm!) but anything artifically sweetened with aspartamine, sugaeine, nutrasweet or with phenalanaline in it... big time poisons and cause behavioural disturbances and in extremes brain tumors... its a known.
A little sugar never killed our grandparents...its just we have too much available. Even just a titch in a cup of tea ..s'ok or honey or go without. There is a natural product called Stevia available at health food stores and it works like chemical nasty sweeteners... but its not harmful...
But I did love TAB...and reasoned that if I drank it I could have a bit more to eat ...sory of bargaining with the scales...stupid young twit that i was...
Here is a link to a site re sweeteners http://www.soundandfury.tv/pages/sweet%20misery3.html
Tab's back in the States as some sort of energy drink now... for whatever reason.
It also earned a mention in Jonathan Coulton's song "Code Monkey," which isn't important for any reason other than I get to plug it one more time. ^_^
I remember TAB from when I was a kid. I never drank it though. I was a Pepsi guy all the way.
As for my first nip of alchohol it came when I was a kid and we were on vacation. Dad had his standard after dinner bourbon and coke (well, he had several of these most night if he wasn't drinking wine). Anyway, he got up and left the room so I took a sip of his drink. LOL .. it was nasty.
Of course, he drank cheap bourbon. Now I drink the good stuff, straight up!
Ginnie, I love my coffee too, Mocconna is my favourite, seconded by Gloria Genes Mud Slide Espresso, yummo :)
Keshi, I guess you are sooo young :)
Rebecca, that'd be cool.
Middle Child, of course you are right, and I am naughty. I love zero or pepsi max, even though I knos such things and work often with people with ailments that could be caused by drinking this, or smoking (which I don't do) or just plain breathing the city air. I oughta stop drinking the false sugar drinks..starting now.
Stewie, love that song, lol.
Jay, I like my pepsi too, the MAX :)
I had some condition that was reportedly due to artificial sweeteners in soft drinks, cyclamates to be specific. That did not kill me though nor did my early introduction to alcohol. At age three, my liberal parents poured a little rum in my egg nog, and I loved it. Later, maybe at age eleven, I was permitted to drink a half of glass of wine; again, I loved it. (My parents thought if we children were allowed to drink a little at home, that we would not drink away from home.) They were mostly right.
mjd, thanks for sharing hon, yes, my mumm and dad were of the same school of thought. Having nursed many a renal patient I just know that alcohol does do damage, and that water is the best liquid we can injest :)
Yes I remember TAB. Shows my age hey ?
...remember Tab?!?!? I drink it all the time... I should send you some. My big thing as a kid was Fresca. I'm glad they still sell that too.
Ah, I had not thoguht about TAB for a while. It's the first diet cola that I can recall. I am not a DC addict.
First alcohol: at a friend's 21st birthday party. It was champagne, and it was okay. I still don't drink very much, more red wine than anything. Did I mention that I was addicted to DC?
When I was in college they had to remove Tab from the snack bar because it ate the pipes in the fountain machines.
Hi TAB is alive and well. It is sold in South Africa and has been sold here for over 20 years. Its bottled by Coca Cola so if you have any friends here all you have to do is ask them to buy you some and send it :-)
