Jokes

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone so I know NOT to answer when they call.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an arguement when you realise that YOU are wrong.

People are now going on dates to cafe's which is the worst idea. Four cappuccinos later and your date doesn't look any better.

Sam was waiting outside for someone to pick him up. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Can you tell me where the Post Office is?"
Sam replied, " Sure! Just go straight down the road and turn left at the set of lights and it is there".
The man thanked Sam as said, " I am he new Pastor in town. I'd like for you to come to Church on Sunday. I'll show you how to get to Heaven."
Sam laughed and exclaime, "Awww, come on..You don't even know the way to the Post Office!"

Is swimming good for your figure? If it is then could someone please explain whales to me?

Boom Boom.

Play Dough..Play Doh?

The girls and I just made green play dough. It was the kind that you do not have to cook. Sarah and Mia read the instructions. Sarah measured out the dry ingrededients. Mia sifted it all so the dough would be lump free. I did the boiling water bit, and also the addition of the green food dye. We all know that too much of the food dye would make the play dough look a yukky green colour right? Mia wanted to add it, but I soon stole the moment :(
Now they are playing with it on the kitchen table.
The rules are: only play on the kitchen table, not anywhere else. (Carpets and green dough. NO)
Put it away in the sealed container when finished.
Only use the cookie cutters and other plastic cutleries provided..
And...have fun!
So they are :)

14 Year Wedding Anniversary..

The 23rd September marks the 14th year of marriage for husband and I. That day was a very wet and rainy one. It did not matter, we smiled the whole day long. I felt like the Barbie doll at the end of Toy Story 1 where she is saying "Can I stop smiling now? OKAY..yeah... oh my cheeks hurt!" Haha.

Apart from the rain, the day went off without a hitch. The girls and I even made it to the Werribee Mansion Chapel before time! I had safety on my mind. As it was drizzling, I worried the hot rod I was going to the wedding in would slide on the wet roads.
Arriving early gave the girls and I time to practice our walk.

The cello and the flute played Pachelbel, Cannon in D Major as the girls and I walked down the aisle. It was so nice to see all our close friends there at our wedding. My husband to be looked...edible! Yum yum! Haha. Moving right along....
Lots of photos and lots of laughs later, we sat to eat some lovely food. The music we had played at the reception was so cool. When someone wanted to see me they had to hit the dance floor to do so..because I was not going to sit down! I think I had Finally played about 5 times o perhaps more.

We danced to A Groovy Kind Of Love by Phil Collins. I think about that time whenever I hear it on the radio.

Happy 14 years to us!

Lots to do.

School vacation time is always busy. I worked Sat and Sun after Tom's Friday night performance. The performance was so awesome! We had a great time of it. Results will be known at the start of term 4 back at school. We got to watch the High Schools Perform after Tom's school finished.
My favourite High School Performance was, by far, that of Fairhills High School. Their production was just so amazing. It left me with my jaw dropped, and the whole way through their time on stage I was saying "Oh my God" and "This is un real!".
It was so professional, so vibrant, and it captures you, draws you into the theme and takes you to another place. Just what we all want, and what we seek when we go to a professional show. Yet these were all just High School kids..amazing stuff! Added to that, Fairhills is a public High School, just as my children's school is a public Primary School, so yayyy to the hard working public school kids, mums, dads and wonderful teachers who make these things happen.
Today I took the kids to the beach. By the time we got there the 21 degree day turned into a 15 degree day with lots of cold wind. Ouch, ice cream headache!
We did have a great time none the less. I took a few pictures with my mobile phone. We found some nice shells and some jelly fishes( which I prepared for if the kids swam. I put vinegar in the car in case of stings).
When we got home I cooked some pancakes and I got the washing off just in time before a little bit if rain hit our area.
I am ready for bed and it is only 5pm :(

Looking forward to sharing the results right here..stay tuned people!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Well, I have been to Nick, Sarah and Mia's PT interviews. They have all done very well at school this term. Reading and writing skills..check... Nick stood up and gave us a Power Point presentation that he had been working on for 3 weeks or so. It was very informative and he was pleased to be able to use the touch screen board they have in the classroom.
Tomas had J Rock practice after school. It is getting very exciting leading up to the grand final this Friday. I plan to make some great posters for the event.
Today's ride was uneventful, no silly people undertaking us and falling over right in front of us. There were a few dogs of their leads, but they too were well behaved. Plenty of ducks and some ducklings on the river, it was nice when the Sun snuck out from beneath the clouds.
I am waiting for my cousin to have her baby...it was due last Wednesday. I did offer to take her four wheel driving in the pathfinder..she declined, I wonder why..haha.

Social Calender.

The kids, it is fair to say, have a full social calender. Me, I jusy have my 20 year High School Reunion on the calender..oh, and 14 years Anniversary this 23rd Sept ... 14 years of being wed to my lovely husband (kissy kissy smooch).
Last night the kids had their school discotecha.. disco. Each child had a different time slot to attend. So I opted to help with the tuck shop so I could stay all night and not be mum's taxi back and forth four times each way. Nick helped me serve the kids until it was his turn to go dance. Then Mia stoo next to me saying"Excuse me, what would you like?" all the while she was applying her little kids' make up to her eyes without a mirror. She looked like a offsider to Mel Gibson in Braveheart in the end. Which made me laugh madly.
Today I helped with the reading at school and a special guest came in. A Grandad of one of the kids in Mia's class is a police officer, and he came to speak his role as a copper. Just as I had done previously in Nick's class about being a nurse. It was great to see the kids interact. Funny to hear some of the questions and stories the kids had to share too.
It was no surprise that some of the kids thought that 911 was our emergency number..thanks to the amount of American telly the kids must watch.... we all know our emergency number IS 000 right?
One child lagged on his dad because, "Well, you know, my dad, when he drives along and he has no seat belt on, well, when he sees the police helicopter he puts it on really quickly". We all laughed so much, I am sure his father would be proud to hear that he shared that bit of vital information with all of us.
Yesterday, Tomas came second in the 1oo metre race against other schools of the region. I am yet again a proud mother hen :)

Lessons people!

Ok, lesson one. You all know I ride my mountain bike as many days a week as possible with my friend. We ride along the Werribee River first thing in the morning. OK. We come across who we call "Flyers". They are serious cyclist who ride those skinny bicycles..wear lycra and have a serious arse up, head dwn approach to riding. They fly past us and don't say boo.
Alright. This guy yesterday was flying up behind us, never said boo and instead of us being able to move on over to let him fly past us he decides he will over take us and go off track. That means of course he is off to the side, on the soft grass area. Then he has to get back onto the cement track...well, his front wheel skids along in the groove between the grass and the cement track. But, for some reason he makes it onto the track in front of us and ever-s0-slowly falls onto his right hand side. It was kind of slow motion and I was usuing expletives as I looked over at my friend who was trying to break and trying not to end up in the Werribee River at the same time!
We all stopped, well, he had no choice, he had met the ground. We dismounted and said "Shit, are you alright? Why didn't you yell out or use a bell to letus know you were approaching?" He had no bell...and well, he did have a voice but didn't use it. Anyway, all checked out he was skun but not a broken bone was evident. Although, I was concerned about his right knee.
Lucky he had full lenth pants and top on..if it was nice weather he would have left skin on the track. Just as we all rode off the rain pelted down, so we snuck in under a bridge to get shelter. The wind was unreal..just gusting and the rain..wow!
Today was no better, then again, the rain waited until 3pm when the school bell went. Of course!
So, the lesson is, if you want to get past two slow riders then yell out..we will move!
The other lesson that I learned today is that in the future I must have cash on me if I am not intending to pay via VISA for tickets through Ticketek. To get tickets for the J Rock finals for Tomas' performance this month I waited in line for the first 20mins until I realised a sign there said "ONLY cash or VISA not EFTPOS to purchase tickets here". I had to walk the full main street to the ATM to get cash out.
I also forgot that Footy Finals tickets were also being sold and so the line was very long.
Then another hour wait to get my tickets. By the time the guy in front of me got to the counter and was told he could not buy footy grandfinal tickets until the next day because he wasn't a member of his footy team..he was not a happy chappy!
Well, I am happy, we got some great seats to watch Tomas as a family and cheer the school on in the Grandfinals next week. The girls and I are going to make posters and get glow sticks to cheer them on.

3 mornings in a row....

Yes, I do do mornings!!! Friday was ever so busy on the roads at 6am, yet I got to work with about 20mins to spare. I just took my time and listened to Vega radio..I love their new and old mix of music. I do not know half of the new artists but I love their garage band feel. Yeah, real music with real instruments is always better than synthesizer stuff I reckon.
Friday I worked on Neurology. A great team of nurses, we work two up. The young girl I worked with did so well. It is heavy work, and the plan changes by the hour as we progress through our shift. Lots of reassurance given at every step with every patient as they are scared. Scared because the hospital is new to them, scared because we use lifting machines to move them about. I have been in one before, it is different, but given reassurance that you are safe is essential.
Putting naso-gastric tubes in, it is the one thing I hate to do. It is necessary for feeding and the administering of medicines in people that have had a stroke. Horrid things, but necessary too.
Saturday I worked on Neurosurgury. Another busy day at work. The traffic was scarce on the way in which was great. No Hot Air Balloons to see, I wondered why? (Highriser, would you have the answers?)
I got to work with another 3 nurses who were just awesome. We called on each other for guidance and assistance and got all our work done. I even had enough time to sit and speak with some people and also braid a ladie's hair for her. Alot of changes to care plans went on, just as the day before on neurology. That mans alot of paper work and alot of talking to next of kin to let them know changes in their loved one's plan.
Yesterday, yes, Father's Day, I worked the morning on the Trauma/Plastics Unit. It was flat out like a lizard drinkin' in the desert Sun! My shift planner that I devised went to plan. Towards the end of the shift I got to sit with a patient who spoke to me about being a Vietnam Vet. I am just not sure how we got onto that subject, and I was surprised at the amount of information he had openly divulged. In my experience, and generally speaking, war vets do not speak of actual combat. Not this time. I listened, and I learned, these men and women who I have much admiration and compassion for went through so much. He had lost his best friend in combat, right next to him. They grew up together and they did 3 tours of Vietnam together. It all went down in the last week of their third tour of Vietnam. His recall is so vivid. He is a smoker, I could have almost let him light up that bloody cigarette right there in the hospital room..if not for the smoke alarms that directly go to the MFB. Hell, he deserved to have a puff.
It sucks majorly how people treat the Vietnam Vets. He was comparing his experience to that what is happening right now overseas. He hopes that the vets of the current war against terrorism get a better "deal" than he himself was given..or lack thereof. Organising their own home welcoming parade as he and his mates did, being treated less that courteously by people he had grown up with. As he said, they did not live his life, they did not see what he had seen. It seems that, just like my Grandad, he was is not the violent type, would not hurt a fly..now.
When I got home I fell asleep on the couch for a bit. A powernap. I awoke to watch Australian Idol..I so love these performers..they are brilliant and diverse and I so wish I could sing like that!
This morning, I have vacuumed the whole place, and I mopped the tiled areas... phew, this house is way too big! I believe I am exempt from riding my bicycle for one day.

Mia's Art

Mia sat down after making a paper fan and made this Lyrebird. Then I got onto Youtube and found a great clip of a Lyrebird and she was so proud that she had made this. Tomorrow she will take it to school to show her teacher.
I took some of the oiliebollen's to school to share with the teachers. I did warn them about the alcohol content..I hope they et them when they got home :)
