Mia's First Day At School...

Well, first day went without a hitch. Mia started school at 12:30pm and went until 2:30pm for today. She has an awesome funky teacher who corriographed the school Rock Eistedfored last year and helps out, in her own time, with the school plays and other concerts too.
Tom, Nick and Sarah also have wnderful teachers too and so the day went very well. Even if it did rain buckets this morning and leave the already dug up road out front of the school looking like a mud bath!

Australia Day Concert...

Hubby and I went to the Australia Day Police Concert, supported by Fergie. It was really awesome. We danced and sang and we were in the best area possible...not in proximity to the stage, yet in relation to sound. Also, in our section people were up and dancing... even when the ushers were telling us all to remain seated. Yeah...right!! Haha
The concert was held at the MCG..or, affectionately known as "The G" in Melbourne...hallowed turf really. It is where our beloved Footy is played in the cooler months of the year..and, where the Grand Final is also held. It holds plenty of people which is great for footy, and it would be great for concerts if the sound would not rebound. The sound did rebound for Fergie, she came out first. She belted out her tunes, and looked really wonderful on the big screens. Her dancers shook their booties too. Yet the sound, the echo was terrible. I was thankful that when the Police came on their sound was just brilliant. Coupled with fire works outside The G and everyone in great Aussie spirit, it made for a great outing to remember.
The Police played out every single hit they ever had, and we all sang heartily along with them. They truly are fine musicians.
Yesterday Tom and I played some one on one basketball at the local park and Mia and Sarah played on the swings. We had a laugh trying to beat each other, Tom and I. Usually there'd be no contest, but Tom is as tall as I am now and well, it is on for young and old!

Almost over..

School holidays are almost over. We have done many things each week. There has been alot of swapping children from city to country and back again. When I had my cousins girls we all danced to Pink and dolled each others hair and nails. When the boys were here we played board games and some Xbox games and went to he park to play. I love the holidays, and the kids do too. But, at this time, they are sure ready to return to school. I don't know, we used to love he vacation time, even if we never went away. I loved playing out in the paddocks and riding my horse..then later on my bike. We always did visit the Melbourne Museum..nowadays the Museum seems more friendly and hands on. The smell of the musky old exhibits has gone. I am not sure if I miss it or not.

Summer rain...

This morning I awoke to some nice wet looking grass and plants in the garden. This, the day I chose to wash my sheets and bed covers..well, it was something I thought about last night as I drove home from work. The smell of rain was in the air I admit, yet it had not come .

Now, as I sit here drinking my cuppacino and typing this post, it is humid. There is a feeling in the air it might just storm today...perhaps I am wrong. We could do with a good storm and some more rain.

I remember as a kid, when we would have a few days of over 40 degrees Celsius temperatures, a storm would brew at the end of the day. We would sit on the front porch and watch the change in weather happen about 20 kilometres away. Brewing over the bay..over Werribee. Sometimes the change actually never came to our house. So we would just sit and watch it dumping and lightening on the town...Melbourne too.

The last image I displayed was of the dust storm that hit Melbourne when I was a kid at school. All the kids cried and we thought, at first, it was a big ball of smoke coming from some bush fire or something. When we got home that day, mum was cleaning the window sills, and tearing her hair out over our lovely white cross-over curtains looking so red. I know that if this occurred again, I would be the same as my mum, I would panic about the dust entering the house.

And so, with that, I do greet the rain....but not the humidity thank you.

Anyone remember a storm as a kid? What was your reaction to it at the time?

Dust to dust......

It's a sad day when you realise that some people think they are "All That" and yet, in the end...we are all dust!! People don't need to be rude and abrupt all the time, they could just as well be nice. Like I said, reality is, we are all dust in the end.

Having a great time...in this strange house, LOL

Hey there, I am having trouble putting posts up so I am cut and pasting my post from word and hope it works. (YAYYY IT DID!!!)
School holidays are still here and we have been to Gisborne to the park and to the beach out at Frankston and driven about a few places. Exchange of cousins and kids from country to city takes place. I got all the girls and my cousin got the boys. Well, you know, the girls do keep saying "Boys suck and girls rule!" They have all been behaving themselves really.
Last night we danced to Pink on DVD and made our hair look gorgeous and did nail polishes. It was great :)
Tonight our friend will be over for a roast on the Weber and the kids will all play together. The days have been cooler than previously, thank goodness....strange really, 25 degrees seems cold in comparison to the 40 odd degree days we have been having.
Life is busy, and the time is going so fast....phew...the Easter eggs are already on the shelves for sale in the supermarkets...enough already!!!

2008 so far..

So far this year has been a very busy one. School Holiday's are always busy and combined with work it is double that.
Our weather here in Melbourne has been extremely hot and so when the cooler days roll in it is very nice. Opening up the windows and doors to let the cool air in for the following days....Thursday is supposed to reach 41 degrees Celsius.
I am burning my favourite sandalwood incense right now and have the Weber BBQ cooking a lamb roast....now, just to invite Tom Cruise over eh, LOL.
My car is in need of a vacuum and some polishing inside, the hot windy dry weather has made the dashboard look like I have been outback or something. Then again, I guess we have been outback of sorts when we went up bush to my Aunt's place.
In the next few days we will be going to the Drive In cinemas to see a flick, probably The Golden Compass or something like that. The Drive In cinemas is always fun. I wish they would do a re-run of Grease, it would be fun to watch it at the Drive-Ins I reckon.
How has your 2008 been so far?

A NEW YEAR.....A NEW BLOG....

I Don't Do Mornings has been a great launch pad for my Friday's History Lessons since March 2007...yes, last year...where did the time go? So, I thought the lessons deserved their own space apart from my normal ramblings :) I expect it will take me some time to move everything over to FRIDAY' S HISTORY POST BLOG. I have a few subjects in the line up to bring to my lovely readers come February, until then, I will just catalogue the old posts...and have fun reading them again...so step on over for a second :)
Oh and any ideas for a better blog name than the one I have created will be noted...so....any ideas? I was thinking "I DO DO HISTORY POSTS" but maybe it is a bit stoopid :)

2008...

NYE was wonderful with the kids and their friends and my friends and we all celebrated by listening to great music and going out the front banging on pots and pans with spoons and lids making a raucous while fireworks went off left right and centre and dogs barked and we all sang out......ahhhhh....take a breath...ok!

Today I sat there and watched my PINK DVD in full, no interruptions and I was stoked....this clearly never happens when you are a mum. You never see movies or anything from start to finish..so 2008 has already began with wonderful landmarks.

It was really hot weather for us here in Melbourne this NYE. Today reached a top of 41.1 degrees Celsius here. The cool change came in around 3pm or so and it was welcomed with open arms....and open doors and windows too!

I wish everyone love, happiness and fun for this coming year. Start your day by listening to some awesome music of your choice...that's the way to go :)
